How Many Minutes? Convert Hours, Days, and Weeks

To find how many minutes are in a duration, convert each unit to minutes and add the results. One hour has 60 minutes, one 24-hour day has 1,440 minutes, and one seven-day week has 10,080 minutes.

Core Conversion Formulas

• Hours to minutes: minutes = hours × 60
• Days to minutes: minutes = days × 1,440
• Weeks to minutes: minutes = weeks × 10,080
• Seconds to minutes: minutes = seconds ÷ 60

For a mixed duration, convert each part and combine it. Three hours 25 minutes becomes 3 × 60 + 25 = 205 minutes.

Minutes and Decimal Hours

To convert minutes to decimal hours, divide by 60:

• 15 minutes = 0.25 hour
• 30 minutes = 0.50 hour
• 45 minutes = 0.75 hour
• 90 minutes = 1.50 hours
• 105 minutes = 1.75 hours

Do not place clock minutes directly after a decimal point. Thirty minutes is half an hour, so 2 hours 30 minutes is 2.50 hours, not 2.30.

Rounding Minutes

Keep full minutes until the last step. If a payroll or billing rule rounds to 5, 6, 10, or 15 minutes, apply that documented rule after calculating the actual duration.

Rounding each clock entry before subtraction can create a different result from rounding the final duration. Payroll requirements vary, so do not assume a universal method.

Seconds and Partial Minutes

Sixty seconds make one minute. A value such as 90 seconds is 1.5 minutes, or 1 minute 30 seconds. Decide whether the output needs whole minutes, decimal minutes, or a minutes-and-seconds format before rounding.
